Welcome to our weekly what’s on this weekend feature –there are a number of places starting their Halloween and Half Term activities so there’s a lot of exciting things going on this weekend.

Changing Materials – Saturday Science Club – 21 October

There are spooky goings on at the Science Oxford, with materials such as sugar, soap and steel doing very strange things. Bring along your young chemists for some experimental fun – they’ll use a burner to heat up various materials and watch what happens, before using their new found knowledge to create some creepy candle decorations to take home.

ABC… Story at Oxford Story Museum – 21 October

Explore a different story (Owl Babies, Martin Waddell) each week. Each session includes a welcome, a story, a stay-and-play time and an activity – messy play, movement or creative play. Ages 0-3

Location: Oxford Story Museum, Rochester House, 42 Pembroke St, Oxford OX1 1BP

Costs £5 per child, with up to 2 accompanying adults free

Halloween Trail at Stonor: 21 – 22 October

There are lots of  Halloween Half Term activities at Stonor!  Use a map to search for clues and explore the grounds to find hidden riddles – work together to solve them and receive a sweet treat!  Your ticket also includes entrance to the Wonder Woods adventure playground where children will have hours of entertainment swinging, jumping, sliding, climbing and splashing.

Pumpkin carving and decorating is also available, along with hot and cold drinks, hot soup, snacks and sandwiches in their Visitor Centre.

Brick Wonders Lego Exhibition at Banbury Museum, 21 – 22 OCTOBER

Calling lego builders and mini-brick architects big and small… A world of imagination and creativity is waiting for you! Discover the endless possibilities, as you journey through history and around the globe discovering brick wonders, carefully crafted using over a quarter of a million of these much-loved little bricks.

A treat for all ages, bring your curiosity, build your imagination and explore the world brick by brick. Marvel at the shapes and structures that can be snapped together to create the most iconic wonders of the world, including the Great Wall of China, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Great Pyramid of Giza and Niagara Falls.

Mini Mornings at Vue Cinema in Oxford, 21 – 22 October

Little Ankle Biters are always on the look out for ways to entertain the kids without spending a fortune, and going to the cinema for just £2.49 per person is one way of doing it, especially on a rainy day.
Vue Cinema in Oxford run Mini Mornings every weekend on a Saturday and Sunday morning from 10am, plus every day during the school holidays.

The Great Pumpkin Hunt at Waterperry Gardens – 21 – 22 October

Join The Great Pumpkin Hunt throughout the October half term from 21st October to 5th November. Find the decorated pumpkins hidden around the gardens and collect a prize at the end! £2 per child

Little Monsters at Bicester Avenue Wyevale Garden Centre – 21 – 22 October

There are lots of activities going on at Bicester Avenue this half term from Lantern Making, Pumpkin Carving, Haunted Heather Planting, Creating your own Spooky Spiders and Halloween parties.

Illuminated Weekends at Fairytale Farm, 21 – 22 October

Between now and Christmas Fairytale Farm will have their Illuminated Evenings every Saturday and Sunday.

The park will be open all day as normal, but when daylight fades the entire Enchanted Walk will become a magical wonderland of fairy lights!

The Beanstalk Cafe will be open throughout with a choice of hot and cold snacks.

The adventure playground and animal areas will close at dusk as the lights come on, so be sure to arrive in good time so you don’t miss all that Fairytale Farm has to offer in the daylight.

The Farm will open until late on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd and 28th October to celebrate the switch-on of the Illuminations. On these special evenings they will be offering a  ‘Illuminations and Supper’ package £6.00 per person. This price gives evening entry to the Farm (with a chance to see the animals if you arrive promptly at 5pm), a soup with crusty bread or hot dog plus a hot or cold drink, and finish the evening with a stroll through the illuminated gardens after the lights switch on. A truly magical evening for the whole family!

Family-friendly Halloween Event at Fairytale Farm – 21 – 22 October

Fairytale Farm have a family friendly Halloween event this year, from Saturday 21st to Sunday 29th October, with free games and activities for younger children. They have free pumpkin carving, spooky biscuit decorating and get creative in their colouring corner and enter the on-site competition. If visitors come dressed up for the occasion they will receive a free treat. They also have face painting for a small extra charge.

And the late-night illuminations evening on Saturday 28th October will be a special Halloween-themed event. From 5pm visitors buying the special ‘Illuminations and Supper’ all-in farm admission and food package will be able to join in with extra Halloween activities, as well seeing the farm and having a stroll through the illuminated Enchanted Walk.

Halloween Entertainment at Blenheim Palace – 21 – 22 October

As autumn draws in and the nights become longer, Blenheim Palace has a delightfully spooky itinerary of events and activities to entertain your little ghouls during October Half Term.

Hop on board the ghost train to go through a creepy tunnel to the Pleasure Gardens where a bone-anza of activities are to be found.

Families can lurk around the Labyrinth or take the Mini-beasts Trail, and there will be a whole host of treats on offer in the Pleasure Gardens Deli including ice-scream and toffee apples, with pumpkin carving too!

Head to the cinema in the Stables Courtyard for classic Halloween storytelling, and there will be Spooky Tours running throughout the week with terrorific candlelit tours on selected dates…

Halloween Trail at Cliveden – 21 – 22 October

This half term there are some spooky Halloween happenings down in the woods at Cliveden! Bring your little ones to Cliveden National Trust for a fun Halloween trail around the grounds of stunning Cliveden.

Halloween Festival at Odds Farm Park, Wooburn Common – 21 – 22 October

This Half Term from the 21 – 31 October, get ready for stacks of Halloween fun at Odds Farm! Enjoy fun Halloween entertainment, dress up in your creepiest costume to take part in the twice-daily fancy dress competitions and carve a pumpkin to take home with you! How spooky will you make yours? Plus, new for 2017, take part in the Crafty Trick or Treat Walk.

Bogrotting Baddies Party – Roald Dahl Museum Sunday 22 October

Celebrate Roald Dahl’s funny but bad characters as you play baddy bingo and other party games.

Event Details

Times: 11.30pm, 12.30pm, 2.00pm and 3pm on Sunday 22nd October

Cost: £2 per participant. Price does not include Museum entry which you will also need to book to take part in the workshop.

Age: recommended for 4+ years. Under 8s will need to be accompanied by an adult (no more than two non-participating adults will be allowed in the room per group). Participants aged 2 to 4 will still be charged.

Type of workshop: interactive workshop
