Red Riding Hood Goes Out West is a new telling of the Red Riding Hood tale set in the American West. Red Riding Hood, an independent-minded English girl, arrives in the town of Not Very Big Boulder to save Grandma from the outlaw, Bad Bart, and his Incompetent sidekick, brains. Bad Bart wants to buy Grandma’s home for a pittance as there is ‘gold in them thar hills!’. Red manages to foil his plan. In desperation, Bad Bart hires Big Bad Wolf, an Indian brave with a villainous reputation, to kill Grandma, leaving Bart able to claim the island as his own. But help it at hand in the form of the Lone Ranger Tonto – or it would be if the Lone Ranger were more competent and less vain! Red Ridinghood, the children and Tonto save the day.

Kennington Amateur Dramatic Society presents Beauty and the Beast – the pantomime by Lorraine Mason. Our version of the well-loved fairy tale sees a handsome but selfish Prince cursed by the evil fairy Demonica, certain to spend the rest of his life as a hideous and lonely Beast. Only true love can break the spell, so join Beauty, her two lazy sisters, and a whole host of other hilarious characters in this traditional family pantomime. Fantasy, make-believe, music and good times guaranteed!

As in previous years, we will be supporting a local charity with a collection at each performance. This year we are raising funds for Ronald MacDonald House Oxford, an incredibly worthy cause.

Saturday Science Club – Science Rocks: 20 January 2018

Kids turn rock detective at this workshop! From fossils to mountain formation, geologists have been uncovering the history stored inside rocks for hundreds of years. Your children can take along their favourite rock, uncover more about rocks in the pop-up geology museum, and explore how acid rain has shaped our landscape. They’ll discover how fossils are formed and create their own by making a fossil-preserving ‘amber’ soap, to take home.

Saturday Science Club Extra: On the Case – Forensic Detectives

A valuable necklace has been stolen, but a group of young Sherlocks is on the case! From decoding clues to fingerprinting and fibre analysis, the forensic experts will use their logic and detection skills to find the answer to the mystery of whodunnit. This sounds like an entertaining workshop on the science of crime scene investigation.

Baby Boogie at The Oxford Story Museum: 20 January 2018

Baby Boogie comes to the Story Museum.. so prepare to get funky!

Toddlers and grown-ups grab some space on the dance-floor and let the music take you away. Take a break in the chill-out zone with free face painting. Kick off your shoes and turn up the volume for a disco delight with your toddlers.

For ages 0-6 year olds with older siblings welcome.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The BFG in Pictures – Henley River & Rowing Museum: 20 & 21 January 2018

Everyone’s favourite giant comes to Henley in this magical exhibition of Quentin Blake’s illustrations.

Curated by Quentin Blake, the exhibition includes unpublished illustrations which have never been exhibited in public before.

Enjoy 40 of Quentin Blake’s original artworks for the story that has enchanted generations of children and adults. The exhibition includes Blake’s first designs which weren’t included in the book, and provide a glimpse of a BFG that might have been…

Families can curl up with a book in their story corner, or enjoy some magical craft activities!
