Doctor Dolittle the Musical at The New Theatre Oxford

15 – 26 January
Doctor Dolittle The Musical

You’ve never seen anything like it! Doctor Dolittle returns to the stage in Leslie Bricusse’s acclaimed family musical.

Join the eccentric Doctor, his human companions and his exotic menagerie of animal friends on an extraordinary adventure to find the Giant Pink Sea Snail, that holds the secret of life and making the world a happier place. With help from the Pushmi-Pullyu and his trusty sidekick Polynesia the Parrot, the larger-than-life Doctor Dolittle teaches us not only to talk to the animals but to listen to them as well!

Based on the popular 1967 film with Rex Harrison, this spectacular new stage show stars Mark Williams (Father Brown, The Fast Show, 101 Dalmatians, The Borrowers, Shakespeare in Love and the Harry Potter film series) as Doctor Dolittle. Joining his exciting journey are the hilarious Vicky Entwistle (Coronation Street, Ackley Bridge, Les Misérables) as his trusty side-kick Polynesia, with Brian Capron (Coronation Street, Grange Hill, Where The Heart Is) playing both the vivacious Albert Blossom and the mighty Straight Arrow.

This exciting musical adventure is brought to you from the producers of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Addams Family and promises stunning visual puppetry, all your favourite songs and fun for all the family.

Pop Art in Print at Banbury Museum

12 & 13 January

Pop Art at Banbury

Featuring work by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Damien Hirst and more

Drawn from the outstanding collection of Pop Art graphics from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, this exhibition showcases work by iconic artists of the 60s and 70s alongside contemporary artists influenced by the modern age’s most important art movement.

Pop Art reflected a fascination with celebrities and brands. Pop artists recognised the potential of prints to communicate ideas quickly and cheaply, creating art which both mirrored and critiqued the American Dream.

Inspired by commercial graphics and popular culture, the movement generated an innovative and prolific culture of printmaking. Bringing together over 60 works by more than 30 artists, this exhibition offers a comprehensive and exciting view of artists working in this style from the 1960s to the early 2000s.

Exhibition organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London

Children go FREE at the Green Dragon Eco Farm

7 – 31 January

Green Dragon

We have been to The Green Dragon Farm a number of times to various children’s parties and both my children  absolutely love it!! There is so much to do at the farm and if you visit between the 7th to 31st January, there is FREE admission for a child with one paying adult.

Open all year round, the farm attraction has many undercover and indoor facilities across the site. The daily Animal Encounter Programme includes a variety of exciting encounters with animals, most of which are undercover, enabling visitors to get up close to the animals and learn about them from the expert Livestock and Wildlife Teams.

In the Animal Barn, there are rare breed lambs to see that were born over Christmas and the New Year to Dorset and Portland ewes and an opportunity to get up close to the sheep and goats that are over-wintering in the barn or groom the Shetland ponies. Nearby in Pets’ Corner are a huge variety of exotic pets some of which visitors can encounter during the ‘Cold-blooded Creatures’ session. There’s also a chance to stroke the Continental Giant rabbits and guinea pigs during ‘Furry Friends’.

Up in the Wildlife Zone, the new Hub – a huge undercover area that can accommodate large groups of visitors and school children – has been ideal for training the young birds of prey, whatever the weather. There are four encounters a day in the Wildlife Zone – the flight-displays and red squirrel encounter are undercover.

There are two play barns for messy and soft play. The Soft Play Barn is the place for the children to let off steam while grown-ups enjoy a great cup of coffee in the warm. The Messy Play Barn houses giant sandpits and ride-ons for little ones – ideal on a wet day.

10am – 4pm Farm and Wildlife Zone

10am – 5.30pm Play Barns

Farm admission: Adult £9, Child £8.

Location: Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm & Eco Centre, Claydon Road, Hogshaw. MK18 3LA
