This weekend is the last weekend in February which means we’re almost out of winter and into spring. Here’s our guide to what’s on for families in Oxfordshire this weekend.

Brookes Science Bazaar 2018: 24 February 2018

Brookes Science Bazaar celebrates its tenth birthday! Join them for a day full of celebrations and amazing science, and learn new things about the world around you.

Get your hands messy at the ‘Build a Bug’ workshop, filled with everything you need to create your own microbes. Look through the eyes of a modern paramedic, and practice basic life support skills. Experience the past through augmented reality. Learn surgical skills with our Operating Department Practice Team – fake blood included! Race the Oxford Brookes Racing 2014 car around different tracks and set the fastest lap. Build a Spaghetti Tower, and help to construct the University of the Future!

Enjoy a fun-filled day with new hands-on activities and old favourites, and meet our staff and students. Fancy dress is encouraged!

The Science Bazaar is FREE and open to all, especially recommended for children aged 5-12.

Muzo Akademy Open Event, Witney: 24 February 2018

A relaxed music event hosted by Muzo Akademy where children can have a go at playing a number of instruments in addition to performances by the bands from Muzo Akademy. Tea and coffee will be available too.

Super Saturday Skate, Oxford Ice Rink: 24 February 2018

A fun drop in session for skaters of all abilities at The Oxford Ice Rink

We all love an adventure – from heroes and villains to monsters and magic – and at this workshop our creative young author/programmers get to choose their own adventure and write it too. Using Python they will learn to code and create their own computer-based book that changes every time it’s read!

Suitable for those new to coding or with some experience. Children are welcome to come dressed as their favourite adventure characters.

9-12 year olds sessions must be accompanied by an adult.

Date and time: Saturday, 24th February 2018 10am – 11.30am (ages 9-12), 12.30pm – 2pm (ages 9-12) and 2.30pm – 4pm (ages 12+)

Ttravel underground to make your very own jumpy bunny, mole in a hole, brilliant badger, bouncy bat, playful fox and mischievous meerket.

Available Saturdays and every day during the Oxfordshire school holidays.

Times: 10:30am – 12:30pm and 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Cost: £2 per child

Suitable for: Children age 3+

Booking Information: Tickets available from the Museum Shop 10 minutes before the event starts. Please note that drop-in activities can be very popular. If very busy on the day, we will restrict tickets to timed entry slots. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by, and remain with, an adult at all times.

Activities at The Oxford Story Museum: 24 February 2018

Three Cheers for Women with Marcia Williams

It’s time to give Three Cheers for Women in this interactive and engaging event with master storyteller and illustrator, Marcia Williams.
Be inspired by the painter Frida Kahlo, save the environment alongside Wangari Maathai, and learn how to draw comics from Marcia herself! With fascinating facts and an interactive quiz, you’ll be awed and inspire by these wonderful women.

Suitable for ages 7+.

All the Rebel Girls

Celebrate 100 years of Suffrage with sash making workshops and a museum trail featuring all your favourite female story characters!

Date and time: 24 February 10am – 5pm

Free with museum entry.

ABC… Story

Explore a different story each week. Each session includes a welcome, a story, a stay-and-play time and an activity – messy play, movement or creative play.

Ages 0-3.

With more than 60 different snowdrop varieties carpeting the ornamental gardens over the season, enjoy these little heralds of spring in a magical setting. Free guided tours at 11am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm (Garden entrance fee applies).

Highway Rat Activity Trail at Wendover Woods: 24 – 25 February 2018

The Highway Rat is the latest Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler book to be brought to life at Wendover Woods.

Follow the panels, complete activities and interact with the forest as you head on a journey with The Highway Rat and all the characters from the story!

Packs are available from the visitor centre for just £3

MINI VUE CINEMA IN OXFORD, 24 & 25 February 2018

Little Ankle Biters are always on the look out for ways to entertain the kids without spending a fortune, and going to the cinema for just £2.49 per person is one way of doing it, especially on a rainy day.

Vue Cinema in Oxford run Mini Mornings every weekend on a Saturday and Sunday morning, plus every day during the school holidays.

Yarn Bombing at Henley River & Rowing Museum: 24 & 25 February 2018

Enjoy these incredible colourful creations as the museum is hit by a wave of yarn bombing! Thames Path Together crafting group have created an astounding variety of crochet and knitted designs, weaving, needlework, and collage. On show you’ll be able to see textile paintings, rowers, boats, ducks and a giant Mr Toad!
