Things to do in Oxfordshire in the Rain with Kids

Things to do in Oxfordshire in the Rain with Kids

You can never rely on the weather in this county so we started thinking about all the things you can do with the kids in Oxfordshire on those wet and miserable days in the rain. And the good news is, there’s a lot. Here are our top picks if you’re feeling trapped in the house and looking for inspiration.

Pop down the bowling lane – a great activity to do rain or shine

I love taking my two girls bowling, it’s a fantastic thing to do when the rain is coming down outside. They love the music, lights and excitement of the bowling alley, and if I’m honest I like it a bit too much too! Make sure you book before you go as they tend to get busy on wet days. Here are your options for in and around Oxfordshire bowling in the rain… Banbury Bowl, Bicester Bowl, Hollywood Bowl Oxford, Hollywood Bowl High Wycombe and Rogue Bowling Aylesbury

Catch a children’s movie

There’s not much that beats the cinema with the little ones on a wet day. And you get to sit in a dark room with ice cream and your feet up, perfect! Lots of cinemas run kids clubs on weekend mornings where you can grab cheap tickets, and you’ll even find some that offer special mid week mum and baby screenings. If you’re looking for a cinema near you why not check out one of these in Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas; Vue Oxford, Odeon Oxford George St, Odeon Oxford Magdalen St, UPP Cinema Cowley, Cineworld Witney, Cineworld Didcot,  Odeon Aylesbury, Cineworld High Wycombe,  Empire Cinema High Wycombe,

Armbands at the ready…

If the rain is coming down outside you may as well embrace the elements and go for a dip. We’re spoilt for choice in Oxfordshire with loads of great pools . Here are our recommendations for the local area; Didcot Wave Pool, Bicester Leisure Centre, Carterton Leisure Centre, Thame Leisure Centre, Wantage Leisure Centre, White Horse Leisure Centre and for a bit further afield Aqua Vale Swimming & Fitness Centre Aylesbury & Coral Reef Waterworld Bracknell

A soft play kinda day

Great for getting little ones to let off some steam when rain stops outside play, and usually enable you to grab a coffee and cake at the same time. Soft plays are a godsend for parents, especially on wet days. Here are our top picks in Oxfordshire; Wyevale Garden Centre – Bicester, Sprouts Play Barn at Millets, Partyman World Oxford, Snakes & Ladders Abingdon, Rugrats and Halfpints, Darcy Bear, Jump & Jiggle Kiddlington & Whizz Kidz Thame

Get creative at a pottery barn

All of the fun and mess, with none of the tidying up! Children will love expressing themselves in a pottery session and getting to take home their creation at the end. Here are some options in the local area; Unique Creations Oxford, The Pottery Place Witney, The Funky Teapot Wantage and Busy Brush Wallingford

Take to the trampolines

Rain? Why not head to a trampoline park? A great workout for the little ones, and you, we have some fantastic trampoline centres locally which cater for all ages and are a perfect retreat on a rainy day. Here are some options we think you might like; Rebound Revolution Bicester and Rush Trampoline Park High Wycombe

For the Adrenaline Junkies

If you have a mini explorer or speed demon on your hands, then why not try one of these fun and adventurous activities for children in Oxfordshire in the rain; Far Peak Climbing, Oxford Brookes Climbing, Karting Oxford and Oxford Ice Rink

Take a Step Back in Time at a Local Museum
