The season of trick or treating, little ones dressed as cute cats and vampires, and all those left over sweets that you’ll just have to polish off, is just around the corner. We’ve been searching the length and breadth of Oxfordshire to bring you all the best events, trails, days out, and much more for families this October Half Term and Halloween. So, have a look at our suggestions below and get planning!

Half Term Halloween Entertainment at Blenheim

Half Term at Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace have a delightfully spooky itinerary of events and activities to entertain your little ghouls during October Half Term!

Hop on board the ghost train and head through the creepy tunnel to the Pleasure Gardens where a bone-anza of activities are to be found. Families can lurk around the Labyrinth and hunt for the friendly zombie. There will be a host of treats on offer at the Pleasure Gardens Pizza Cafe including our seasonal Pumpkin pizza, as well as ice-scream and other delectable treats for little witches and wizards!

Plus the Orangery Restaurant is offering a deliciously spooky Halloween Afternoon Tea between the 23rd-31st October!

See the interactive Mini Beasts Animal Show in the Gallery and a wicked wizard stilt-walker in the Great Court. There will also be classic spooky storytelling in the cinema of the Stables Courtyard with ghostly tales; perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit.

Children’s Jewellery Making Workshops with Ruth Ravie

Jewellery making at Millets

Run by Ruth Ravie, these interactive workshops will teach children how to create their very own keepsake.

Each child can design and make their own personalised jewellery; including the options of a necklace or bracelet; that they can take away to wear with pride and say “I made that”!

Ruth will provide an amazing selection of quality beads, and at the end of the session each child will receive a beautiful organza bag to carry home their creations.

Suitable for:
6 + (see specific session timings below). Note, adults are welcome to book a place on the 9+ sessions.

Adults are encouraged to leave their child (Ruth is CRB checked) for the duration of the session.

Sprouts Spooktacular Pumpkins & Party!

Join the Sprouts team for an evening full of creative carving, play frame climbing and disco dancing fun!

To start the evening, children can prepare for Halloween by carving their very own pumpkin, followed by a devilishly Halloween buffet. Our huge play frame will then be open and the disco music playing, for everyone to enjoy an eerie evening of entertainment.

Join Cogges Farm for a celebration of autumn throughout half-term. Wrap up warm, grab your wellies and get outdoors to enjoy clambering over logs in the woods, defending the Cogges Farm castle and chatting with the goats. With daily activities 10-2, just drop in and let your imagination go wild.

Sunday 21st October – Apple Day 11am – 4pm, with the Windrush Bowmen, apple treats and a whole host of apple-tastic fun for all
Monday 22nd October- storytelling at 10.30, 11.30 and 12.30
Tuesday 23rd October- School holiday Woodland Club, drop in from 10 – 2 for autumn crowns and crafts, den building, and cooking over an open fire
Wednesday 24th October- Make your own apple crumble for tea! Drop in 10-2.
Thursday 25th October- Nature painting drop in 10-2
Friday 26th October-  Fire show with a difference, from Science Oxford (ages 7+). Performances at 10.30 and 12.15. Booking essential. Click HERE
Sunday 28th October – Pumpkin Day – carving competition, steaming pumpkin soup, storytelling, lantern walk and hot chocolate

As well as these daily activities, visitors can join in with our pumpkin trail, available from the welcome desk for £2 20th – 31st October. All completed trails will be able to choose a gift worth £2 or below from the Cogges shop.

Stormy Weather

Marvellous Mini-beasts

Get up close to the mini-beasts, meet the big bugs and the scaly snakes from Owen’s Animals. Enjoy fascinating talks about their world and make creative craft on a natural theme.

Raise your Spooky Voice

25 October

Spend a spooky morning with Raise Your Voice choirs this half term! We’ll sing, play games, make Halloween crafts and put together spookily healthy snacks. Suitable for the whole family!

RYV is a carefully developed mix of singing and play for children aged 4-11 and their parent/s and carer/s. Open to mums, dads, aunties, uncles, grandmas, grandads, fairy godmothers… No singing experience necessary! RYV believes in access for all, love and biscuits.

Halloween at Fairytale Farm

October half term at wyevale

Fairytale Farm have a family friendly Halloween event this year, from Saturday 20th to Sunday 28th October 2018, with free games and activities for the younger children.

They have free pumpkin carving, spooky biscuit decorating and get very creative in their fun colouring corner and enter the on-site competition. If visitors come dressed up for the occasion they will receive a free treat. There will also be face painting for a small extra charge.

There is a special late night Halloween event on Saturday 27th October, where they combine the excitement of the illuminated gardens with Halloween activities to create a truly memorable evening out.

Visitors arriving after 5pm can take advantage of their special ‘Illuminations and Supper’ all-in farm admission and food package and will be able to join in with the extra Halloween activities, as well seeing the farm and having a stroll through the illuminated Enchanted Walk.

Special evening activities will include a fun workshop where children can make their own potions and spells ready to cast on All Hallows Eve, and a spooky story corner. (Note that those who have paid the full admission price earlier in the day can stay on and see the illuminations free of charge, and all the hot food can be purchased individually from our Beanstalk Cafe).

The Great Pumpkin Hunt at Waterperry Gardens

Join The Great Pumpkin Hunt throughout the October half term from 20th October to 4th November. Find the decorated pumpkins hidden around the gardens and collect a prize at the end! £2 per child (children must be accompanied by an adult for whom the garden entrance fee applies).

Roald Dahl Family Activity Day at the V&DA Museum, Wantage

Join the Vale and Downland team for a fun-filled and family-friendly day celebrating the life of Roald Dahl. BFG dream bottles, revolting rhymes and a fancy-dress competition are amongst the many activities taking place.

We’ve got 1,500 orange pumpkins for carving all sourced from a local farmer.

Halloween: The Bats Lair, Cliveden National Trust

20 – 28 October

Dress up the children in their favourite Halloween outfits to run riot in Cliveden’s spooky estate this half term. Children will learn fact from fiction as they join Cliveden’s elusive bat community for fun and frolics. Follow a fun trail, solving spooky challenges, there’s a choice of routes and different activities aimed at different age levels making the trail suitable for ages 2 -13 years.

The trail costs £3.00 per child and you can collect your trail from the visitor centre by the main car park. The trail runs from 20 – 28 October, 10.30am – 2.30pm daily.

Plus discover the frightfully fun Crafty Trick or Treat Walk, with even more surprises for 2018.
