I must have driven past England’s Rose pub in Postcombe countless times, and yesterday we visited for their Sunday carvery.
Walking into the friendly village pub was like visiting family, the couple that run it were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us and it was clear that their customers felt relaxed and at home. In fact on our way out there was someone sitting asleep on the sofa in front of the roaring fire.
We opted for the carvery which was delicious and tasted homemade. There was a choice of three meats (we had a bit of everything), Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, a huge selection of veg and a very tasty gravy. This was followed by a choice of good old fashioned puddings which went down very well with everyone.
While we were there one of our party felt unwell and the very kind lady who runs the pub offered him a room to rest in for half an hour.
The whole place was welcoming, homely and we all had a feeling of nostalgia while we were there. It didn’t cost the earth either at £10.95 a head, half price for kids and under 5’s free.
The pub also boasts a large garden of almost two acres in size with a barbeque area, benches and an excellent children’s play area.
Visiting England’s Rose was like visiting a close relative and if you’re after good food in a welcoming environment that’s down to earth then I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I’m only sorry it has taken us this long to visit.
