Oxford’s Christmas Lights Festival

This annual festive celebration draws in local communities and visitors into Oxford’s city centre and is a highlight of Oxford’s cultural calendar. Last year the festival delivered 53 events to over 100,000 people in partnership with 25 cultural organisations and engaged with thousands of participants in festival projects and events.

Hotspots of activity are in Broad Street’s Christmas market, Gloucester Green’s live dance stage, magical installations in the Castle Quarter and this year will include the new Westgate Oxford into the mix as the lantern parade weaves through new spaces as well as historic ones.

Each year the festival explores a different theme and in 2017 the theme is ‘The World in Oxford’. Oxford’s diverse communities will be showcasing projects that explore identity and journeys to Oxford. The city’s international links are highlighted through light and sound installations as well as a special piece created by young people on their visits to Oxford’s twinned towns Leiden, Bonn, Grenoble, Perm and Leon.
