Here at Little Ankle Biters we are only too aware of how quickly the week goes by and how precious weekends are with our families, to help we have put together our top picks of things going on this weekend in and around Oxfordshire.

Free family Xplorer event in Wallingford – Saturday 16th September at 10 AM – 12 PM

Xplorer is a family friendly fun navigation challenge that is suitable for all ages. As well as being educational, it also gives children a sense of adventure as they explore the park to find the markers.

It involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision making that the whole family can enjoy together. At each marker, children need to identify what is pictured and enjoy learning a fun fact to tell their friends.

Just turn up and receive your challenge sheet from the registration table next to the children’s playground and tennis courts.

Restore Charity Treasure Hunt and Summer Fete in Banbury, Saturday 16th September

This Charity event is raising awareness and funds for the charity Restore, an Oxfordshire-based mental health charity.

Join Restore at The Orchard in Banbury for a fun packed day with traditional fete stalls like Tombola, Bric-a-brac, Cake Sales, Banbury Bake off competitions, BBQ and the opening of their Sensory Garden and much more…

Or why not join in their Treasure Hunt that will take you on a journey around Banbury Town.

Price: Fete is free.

Wonderful Weather – Saturday Science Club Abingdon – Saturday 16th September

The British weather is nothing if unpredictable but children love a storm cloud as much as a rainbow, which is why we know they’ll love this special weather workshop! Your mini-meteorologists will explore the science of rain, clouds and snow through fun, hands-on activities before creating their very own ‘water-cycle in a bag’ to take home.

Binsey Fete – Saturday 16th September

Binsey Fete is now in it’s 10th year and is now an annual tradition in the village of Binsey. This year there will be Live Music, GIANT Hay Bales, Tractor Rides, Gin Shack, Hog Roast and Children’s Entertainment.

All proceeds will go to local charities including Oxford food bank, Binsey Church and West Oxford Primary Playground.

Price: £2 or free for under 16

Family Fun Day, Milton Manor House – Saturday 16th September

Ignite your imagination and step inside a story.

The unique and delightful setting of Milton Manor will once again play host to a large number of children’s story characters, with Peter Pan hiding out under the shade of a fir tree, Beatrix Potter characters by the lily pond, and the Manor’s beautiful resident shire Rocket reprising his role of the equine hero of Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse in the Georgian stables.

In addition, well-known children’s authors David Melling (Hugless Douglas), Chris Mould (Something Wickedly Weird/Pocket Pirates) and top children’s poet John Foster will be giving readings from their books and offering book signings.

Charlbury Street Fair – Saturday 16th September

This popular community event has taken place every year since 1950 and the theme this year is Alice in Wonderland!

On the day there will be a funfair, entertainment, children’s fancy dress and much more

Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials – 16th/17th September

World class equestrian event, in addition to the Show Jumping, Dressage and Cross Country, there are lots of other displays and attractions throughout the event for all the family, including children’s play areas, a food and drink hall, sports and classic car displays, and more than 200 outlets in the shopping village.

Mini mornings at Vue Cinema in Oxford

Little Ankle Biters are always on the look out for ways to entertain the kids without spending a fortune, and going to the cinema for just £2.49 per person is one way of doing it, especially on a rainy day.

Vue Cinema in Oxford run Mini Mornings every weekend on a Saturday and Sunday morning from 10am, plus every day during the school holidays.

Kop Hill Climb – 16th/17th September

With so much to see and do at Kop Hill Climb you’ll need a few hours to enjoy everything.

Make sure you give yourself time, not just to watch the hill runs, but to also get up close to the vehicles, talk to the owners, explore the displays and enjoy the entertainment.

The quietest time to come, avoiding any queues, and getting the best view of the hill run, is at 9.00 in the morning. You’ll benefit from seeing all 300+ hill runners in the morning session before enjoying lunch in the food zone and then taking time to stroll around the extensive paddock and then maybe watching your favourite cars or motorbikes run again.

In the Children’s Zone, our historic fun fair rides take you back in time, from the Carousel to a 1930s Dodgem ride.

Advance adult day tickets are £10 (£15 on the day) and valid for the Saturday or Sunday. Please purchase two tickets if you wish to come both days. Under 16s tickets are £5. Children of 5 and under receive free admission

Thame 5k Family Fun Run – Sunday 17th September

Thame Family Fun Run is to raise money and awareness for vulnerable children in the UK with this year drawing particular attention to the children and young people caught up in the refugee crisis.

The event starts at 12pm at John Hampden School with a warm up before the start of the competitive 5k race with the family fun run/walk/scoot will begin a circular route of the Pheonix Trail. It will end back at John Hampden School for a family BBQ with activities for all ages.

Prices: There is a suggested donation of £7 per person or £20 per family
