What’s on this Weekend for Families in Oxfordshire: 7 & 8 July

It looks like the weather is set to continue to be amazing for another 2 weeks – YAY! If you’e looking for something to do over the weekend here’s our guide to what’s on for families in Oxfordshire.

 

PETER RABBIT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM AT THE OXFORDSHIRE MUSEUM

Bunnies will be bouncing all over the Museum this summer, as Peter Rabbit hops, skips and jumps right off the page in this interactive exhibition about Beatrix Potter’s most famous  creation.

The Brew House gallery will transform into a playroom where visitors can have fun helping Mrs Tiggywinkle hang up the laundry or visit Mrs Rabbit in her burrow!

Children can dress up as Peter, help plant carrots in Mr McGregor’s garden or curl up with one of the books in the story corner.

PIRATES, PANTS AND WELLYPHANTS AT THE RIVER & ROWING MUSEUM

Nick Sharratt, the man behind the instantly recognisable illustrations for Jacqueline Wilson’s Tracy Beaker books, is the subject of this colourful, humorous and hands-on exhibition.

EYNSHAM CARNIVAL

The annual Eynsham Carnival is one of the oldest of its kind in the county, having celebrated its 70th year in 2016. Main attractions include a parade, outside stalls and craft fair, arena acts, fun fair and the famous shirt race.

Tickets are available from The Evenlode DIY, Eynsham News, The Post Office, and Eynsham Cellars. Tickets are £5 on the day, £4 advance and £3 concessions.

ALICE’S PICNIC AT OXFORD BOTANIC GARDEN

Take your picnic to Oxford Botanic Garden and take part in the annual celebration of all things Alice.

Opera Holland Park is bringing Will Todd’s family opera, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to life this summer at the Botanic Garden.
Join Alice and the Mad Hatter for more than just a tea party on Alice’s Day, 7 July, with an adventurous, immersive and intriguing promenade workshop.
Delve deeper into the quirky and exciting world that is Wonderland, with opera performances from Alice and interactive storytelling by her friends.

Visitors can also follow our curious trail around the Garden, enjoy live music, plant crazy vegetable seeds and have their face painted with a big Cheshire Cat smile.

Free entry for children with a paying family member.

ALICE’S DAY AT THE STORY MUSEUM

Be sure to mark 7 July in your diary as we prepare for Alice’s Day, The Story Museum’s annual festival celebrating all things Wonderland. This year’s theme is ‘Journeys & Adventures’. Alice’s Day 2018 marks the closure of our exhibitions for redevelopment, so come and join the fun as we begin the next phase of our own exciting journey!

JOHN HAMPDEN PRIMARY SCHOOL FETE

John Hampden Primary School in Thame is hosting their annual fete on 7 July this year. Activities include Crazy Golf, Zorbs, A Giant Slide and much much more

FRONT ROW FESTIVAL

Front Row Festival in Fritwell near Bicester are a family friendly festival with a full day of free children’s activities including craft tent , circus skills workshop and a soft play Playbus.

Under 10s are free to get in with 11-17 year’s £5 and adults £15 ( plus small booking fee) if bought on line. Prices increase on the gate. The bar has great selection of real ales and ciders as well as Pimms , Prosecco and Fever Tree Gin Bar.

Gates open at 11am with 14 top quality music acts from around the UK .

ST ANDREW’S SCHOOL SUMMER CARNIVAL, CHINNOR

Join St Andrew’s School in Chinnor for their Summer Carnival.

Saturday 7th July, 130pm – 4pm.

Including facepainting, bouncy castle, games and fancy dress parade. Lots of fun for all the family!

 

CREATIVE COMPUTING CLUB WITH SCIENCE OXFORD

Rev up your engines and get ready to join the driverless car revolution!

Oxford is home to some of the most exciting tech advances in driverless cars so this month’s club focuses on driverless tech in miniature.

The  Micro:bit buggies have been rigged with an infra-red sensor and reader, but they need some help to become autonomous. Junior learner drivers will learn how to code our mini-fleet to move around on its own, to tell the difference between light and dark surfaces and make sure it stays on the road.

There’s also the chance to create a maze to follow and test out other peoples..

ALICE DAY AT THE BODLEIAN LIBRARY

Making plans with the kids for Alice’s Day? Why not book one of our free mini book making workshops at the Bodleian Library on Saturday 7 July? You’ll discover the tiny libraries created for Victorian children and craft your own little book, complete with stamps, stickers and beautiful decorated papers.

The workshops take 50 minutes, are happening at 10am, 11am, 1pm, and 2pm, and are suitable for ages 7-14 – children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Classic Car Show at Notcutts Garden Centre

The Classic Car Show at Notcutts Garden Centre is great fun for all the family with a fun fair for the kids, 200 motors, local produce and lots more.

It takes place between 9am – 4:30pm on Sunday 8 July at Notcutts Garden Centre, Nuneham Courteney, Oxford. OX44 9PY
