Thame October Fair – 13 – 14 October

Following the cancellation of the September fair, we are delighted that the October fair will go ahead as normal this weekend.

Baby Boogie at The Oxford Story Museum – Saturday 14 October

oddlers and grown-ups grab some space on the dance-floor and let the music take you away. Take a break in the chill-out zone with free face painting. Kick off your shoes and turn up the volume for a disco delight with your toddlers.

For ages 0-6 year olds with older siblings welcome.

Buggy Balloon Battle, Creative Computing Club – Saturday 14 October

Do you have a Robot Wars or Super Mario Kart fan at home? Then this workshop is for them. They will get to create their very own radio controller by programming BBC Micro:bits. Afterwards, they can test out their robot buggy driving skills and see how many balloons can be popped in our arena.

Workshop is for children aged 9-15

Price: £8 per child (adults free)

Thame Arts & Literature Festival – 14 – 15 October

Every October since 2010, Thame has hosted an annual Arts & Literature Festival with approximately 35 events packed into an intensive and inspirational weekend.

Family events include:

THAME CINEMA 4 ALL : A MONSTER CALLS AT THE PLAYERS THEATRE ON SATURDAY 14TH OCTOBER AT 10:30AM

A film about a boy seeks the help of a tree monster to cope with his single mother’s terminal illness.

For children aged 12 and over

THE BUTTERFLY WITH SUZANNE BARTON AT THE TOWN HALL ON SATURDAY 14TH OCTOBER AT 1:30PM

Join Suzanne for an hour of discovery and drawing as she runs her delightful interactive workshop for children aged 3+.

THE ISLAND AT THE END OF EVERYTHING  WITH KIRAN MILLWOOD HARGRAVE AT THE PLAYERS THEATRE ON SATURDAY 14TH OCTOBER AT 3PM

Kiran weaves her magic for children aged 9+ on Saturday.

THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE OVER 10,000 YEARS WITH CHRIS LLOYD AT THE TOWN HALL ON SUNDAY 15TH OCTOBER AT 10AM

Returning for the 3rd year, the very popular and hugely entertaining Chris Lloyd returns with his massive charts and bubbly personality.

Chris’ talks are always worth getting up on a Sunday morning for – suitable for all ages from 7 to 170!!

THAME ART CRAWL

In partnership with Thame Arts & Literature Festival Thame Town Council are running the first ever Thame Art Crawl, giving festival goers the chance to stroll around Thame between events, to explore different venues celebrating art in the town centre.

Running from Wednesday 11 – Saturday 14 October 2017,  the Art Crawl will feature:

  • Live Art with Creation Station at the library on Saturday 2pm – 4pm
  • established galleries, artist and makers shops;
  • pop up art exhibitions;
  • live art activities where you can watch an artist at work, and sometimes get involved yourself
  • community arts groups.

Illuminated Weekends at Fairytale Farm, 14 – 15 October

Between now and Christmas Fairytale Farm will have their Illuminated Evenings every Saturday and Sunday.

The park will be open all day as normal, but when daylight fades the entire Enchanted Walk will become a magical wonderland of fairy lights!

The Beanstalk Cafe will be open throughout with a choice of hot and cold snacks.

The adventure playground and animal areas will close at dusk as the lights come on, so be sure to arrive in good time so you don’t miss all that Fairytale Farm has to offer in the daylight.

The Farm will open until late on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd and 28th October to celebrate the switch-on of the Illuminations. On these special evenings they will be offering a  ‘Illuminations and Supper’ package £6.00 per person. This price gives evening entry to the Farm (with a chance to see the animals if you arrive promptly at 5pm), a soup with crusty bread or hot dog plus a hot or cold drink, and finish the evening with a stroll through the illuminated gardens after the lights switch on. A truly magical evening for the whole family!

Pick Your Own Pumpkins – Millets Farm Centre, 14 – 15 October

You can pick your own pumpkins from the PYO fields of Millets Farm Centre near Abingdon.

Brick Wonders Lego Exhibition at Banbury Museum, 14 – 15 October

Calling lego builders and mini-brick architects big and small… A world of imagination and creativity is waiting for you! Discover the endless possibilities, as you journey through history and around the globe discovering brick wonders, carefully crafted using over a quarter of a million of these much-loved little bricks.

A treat for all ages, bring your curiosity, build your imagination and explore the world brick by brick. Marvel at the shapes and structures that can be snapped together to create the most iconic wonders of the world, including the Great Wall of China, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Great Pyramid of Giza and Niagara Falls.

Mini Mornings at Vue Cinema in Oxford, 14 – 15 October

Little Ankle Biters are always on the look out for ways to entertain the kids without spending a fortune, and going to the cinema for just £2.49 per person is one way of doing it, especially on a rainy day.

Goblin’s Peter and the Wolf – Sunday 15 Ocober

Peter and Grandad have gone camping for the weekend. Grandad says stick to the campsite but Peter has other ideas…

Join Peter on a hilarious adventure through the feilds and forests he discovers new sounds and noises. Featuring animal antics of singing birds, waddling ducks, sneaky cats, and a rocking wolf. With new music lovingly inspired by Prokofev’s classic, this is Peter and the Wolf as you’ve never seen it before.

Goblin’s Peter and the Wolf is a brand new show with amazing music created live with a variety of instruments and objects, including real musical vegetables. Combined with imaginative puppetry, physical comedy and fun interaction, the show will have children ages 4+ jumping for joy.

The show is an ideal and imaginative introduction to making music, and has a positive message about being kind to the world.

Apple Day at Cogges Manor Farm – Sunday 15 October

The ever popular Apple Day at Cogges returns this year with even more delicious apple treats from the orchard and walled garden.

You can taste a range of different varieties of apples to find your favourites! There will be apple pressing, ready for you to taste fresh, heritage apple juice, with some available to take home.

The Windrush Bowmen will be on the lawn in period dress demonstrating their archery skills and sparring using replica weapons, as well as showing visitors traditional weaving techniques. There will also be a static birds of prey display from J.E.T Falconry.

In the manor house, the apple fun continues with toffee apples, storytelling, craft activities and apple crumble. For the grown-ups, there’s always the Cogges Cider Bar, and live music to while away the afternoon.

Usual entry fees apply or free for season ticket holders and under 3s. Well behaved dogs on leads are most welcome.
