At Little Ankle Biters we are only too aware of how precious weekends are with our families, so to help we have put together our top picks of things going on this weekend in and around Oxfordshire.

 

The Diary of Dennis the Mennis – Saturday 23rd September

Let the author of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize-shortlisted The Wrong Pong give you the inside story on everyone’s favourite Beano star.

All the cheeky tricks and pranks played are hilariously shared in Steven Butler’s The Diary of Dennis the Menace and in this event he takes you on a whistle-stop tour with Dennis, his dog Gnasher and their friends and enemies.

Climb That Tree – Saturday 23rd September

Climb That Tree is the brand new show from award-winning songwriter and musician David Gibb (Letters Through Your Door). Join David on a musical journey through his hilarious and often surreal imagination, where bears live in the cupboard under the stairs, wolves are roaming the corridors at school, and trips to the moon are a regular occurrence.

Guaranteed to have both parents and children singing along in no time, this is music that the whole family can enjoy together.

Saturday Ashventures – Ashmolean Museum – Saturday 23rd September

Join the new Ashventures at the Asholean Museum in Oxford for stories, gallery hunts, games, object handling and crafts

All ages welcome particularly those over 4.

Brick Wonders Lego Exhibtion at Banbury Museum – 23rd/24th September

Calling lego builders and mini-brick architects big and small… A world of imagination and creativity is waiting for you! Discover the endless possibilities, as you journey through history and around the globe discovering brick wonders, carefully crafted using over a quarter of a million of these much-loved little bricks.

A treat for all ages, bring your curiosity, build your imagination and explore the world brick by brick. Marvel at the shapes and structures that can be snapped together to create the most iconic wonders of the world, including the Great Wall of China, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Great Pyramid of Giza and Niagara Falls.

Mini mornings at Vue Cinema in Oxford – 23rd/24th September

Little Ankle Biters are always on the look out for ways to entertain the kids without spending a fortune, and going to the cinema for just £2.49 per person is one way of doing it, especially on a rainy day.
Vue Cinema in Oxford run Mini Mornings every weekend on a Saturday and Sunday morning from 10am, plus every day during the school holidays.

Half Moon presents Leaf – Sunday 24th September

A playful theatrical experience for the very young inspired by nature and the seasons. A leaf is born… It grows and glows in the sunshine and the rain.

Then the wind blows and it becomes colder. The leaf changes colour. In the snow, the leaf falls…

But when spring comes, a new leaf grows…

Join Half Moon as they tell the life story of a very special leaf in this intimate and playful new piece for under 3s.

Framed within an evocative soundscape, this is the perfect introduction to theatre for the very young.

At the end of the performance, children are invited onto the stage to play among the leaves and explore a landscape created by the changing seasons.

Kings Sutton Scarecrow Festival – Sunday 24th September

King’s Sutton’s Scarecrow Festival is an annual event which raises funds for King’s Sutton’s Preschool Playgroup, this year’s theme is “Inspired by Nature” – perhaps we’ll see Bee Keepers, Eco-warriors or even David Attenborough!

Village residents, business and community organisations are encouraged to create and display scarecrows of all shapes and sizes to be displayed in gardens and green spaces along a route around the village, with plenty of stops for refreshment and amusements along the way.

Main festival events such as the live music, races, competitions and rides will be located at Millennium Hall & Rec, where there is free visitor parking.

Apple Day at Langford Community Orchard – Sunday 24th September

Langford Community Orchard are hosting Apple Day where there will be Apple Bobbing, Apple Pressing, Free Delicious Apple Juice, Woodwork Fun, Nature Hunt & Explore the Orchard.

You can also take along some rocks or stones to paint while you’re there and take part in the popular Bicester Rocks!
